Shortly after our October blog post explained reporting requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the IRS announced an extension of the deadline for distributing those forms. On October 2, 2020, the IRS announced it would extend the deadline for employers to provide employees with a copy of their 1095-C or 1095-B reporting form, as required by the ACA, moving the deadline from January 31 to March 2. This is the fourth year in a row that such an extension has been announced. The deadlines for filing 1095 forms with the IRS were not extended and remain February 28 for paper filing or March 31 for electronic filing.
Acceptable methods for distributing 1095-C forms to your employees include mail, hand delivery (if you’re not operating remotely), or e-mail (if prior consent is given). MarathonHR handles distribution of 1095-C and 1095-B forms for our clients to their employees via U.S. Mail.
